Is learning PHP that simple? My answer is yes, if you have the right hand-on guide and study materials. PHP is a server side scripting language that comes with its set of confusions with regards to figuring out how to use its syntax, installation and security. It's not like HTML which is processed client side. But actually it's not difficult to understand if you can learn it using an ebook written by a seasoned and professional PHP developer.
The main issue nowadays is that there are thousands of PHP books written by so-called "gurus" that confuse aspiring web developers more than they guide. In fact, majority of those PHP e-books floating around are written by amateurs who have little knowledge of security and don't have search engine optimization in mind. They simply want to make some quick bucks, without giving a damn about those who buy their books.
That's why it's advisable to learn PHP through someone who is well-known and versatile in PHP scripting language. Following a very simple step-by-step guide was how I started developing websites with PHP. Learning took me a short period of time - less than seventeen (17) hours. Now I don't hire any developer or coder to customize my sites. It's fun and fulfilling to be able to personalize my websites exactly the way I want them to look.
No one else can customize your site exactly the same way you visualize it, except you. No matter how a coder whom you hire tries, it will never look the same way, had you been able to code the site yourself.
Even when an outsider creates a site that is closer to your taste, he/she might not create a.htaccess file, causing the site to have a canonicalization issue. Have you ever waited for a coder for long hours or days just to make minor changes to your site? Has ever occurred to you that you could have done the job yourself, if you had known little PHP? Has it ever bothered you that you're dishing out, if not wasting a lot of money to PHP coders every now and then?
Why not follow a simple tutorial written by an acclaimed PHP coder that educates you how to use PHP scripting language to create a website which interacts with site visitors, create secure contact forms, auto-responders and make changes to your existing website? Won't you be happy to achieve all these?
While this article includes some great tips and benefits of designing your own site using PHP, you need the same information that I used to actually code your site.
